Sweaters for Syrian refugees

Sweaters for Syrian refugees

Dear Readers,

There are times when I am reminded that life in Canada is privileged.  Wars, bombings, and atrocities I have difficulty wrapping my head around are in the news every day.
Today I was blessed to receive an email from Canada Lutheran World Relief, asking for the gift of sweaters. Giving a sweater to a Syian refugee is something I can do, to move towards illustrating my love for a people and their distress.  I wish I could hug everyone of them and offer words of comfort -although words would fall far short of aleviating the crisis.  For now, I hope that my sweater will keep a sister warm in a far off land.  The sweater is my hug.
Please consider sending a hug of your own.  The Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Halifax is collecting new and slightly worn sweaters, to send through HomeHardware to CLWR.  You are invited to drop off your hug for forwarding.  If you do not live in Halifax, NS, contact a Lutheran Church in your area.

*click on "Sweaters for Syrian refugees" at the top of this post and it will take you directly to the CLWR news brief/request.

Hugs and Son-shine,
Kimber

Wedding Excitement

In a week and a few days my BFF is getting married.  I am honoured to have been asked to play a variety of rolls.  It feels like I am full friend and in some ways parent too.
Next week I have taken vacation so I can offer my services:  writing out place setting tags, putting together Jelly Belly gift bags, cleaning the house as it will be hotel for some and the sight of the rehearsal dinner.  Then it is off for a girls martini night, nails to be done, hair...  Then I get to change from bridesmaid to officiant, and back to bridesmaid.
I am pretty excited.  I love to plan stuff and execute events!
It also feels like a trial run for potentially three family weddings down the road for my own children.  The beauty of this one, I am the older friend, looked up to for opinions and help...and not the parent.  This means that my opinions are really wanted and many ideas are wholly embraced.

I pray that if or when the time comes for my kids to plan weddings, that I have the grace to step back and not be hurt if my opinion is asked for but not really wanted.  I also pray that they have a good friend who will fill the roll I am for my BFF.
