being honest

Yesterday's sermon was an honest conversation between a husband and a wife.  The basis of the conversation began in the words of Romans were Paul writes that one should not be conformed to the world.  He continues by talking about gifts.

The conversation by the husband and wife was a real life couple.  The husband was continually unhappy at work and it was starting to affect life at home. It was not a life giving job - it was good pay, it had status, and it allowed for the couple to live a certain lifestyle.  With the kids mostly gone from home it was time for re-evaluation.  The husband wanted to quit but didn't know how to approach the wife.

The wife could see that her husband's job was that, a job, not a vocation - life giving work that comes from the gifts and passions of an individual. One day she said, "YOu need to quit your job."  What a relief!

It did take honesty, a confronting of fear, a willingness to live with less --- in return contentment, following ones' passions, and living into being (not living according to the world's idea of success).  The real joy comes from seeing the couple, each day, growing in being Good News and God's light in the world.  Joy comes from passion and living abundantly!
